Ericka + Jared | Heartfelt Wedding at The Lageret | Stoughton, Wisconsin

Ericka + Jared | Heartfelt Wedding at The Lageret | Stoughton, Wisconsin

I always say how I love tears on a wedding day because when you cry on a wedding day they are tears of joy, love, and happiness! Those are the kind of tears that I'm okay with :) Well I had to stop myself from tearing up a couple times during the day with Ericka and Jared! There were so many beautiful and heartfelt moments, but my favorite had to be when Jared gave Ericka the notebook that he had written his vows in. He started writing in this notebook shortly after they met and it culminated with the vows that he read to her on their wedding day! Does it get any sweeter?!

An Experiement in Black and White at the Madison Club | Madison, WI

An Experiement in Black and White at the Madison Club | Madison, WI

An all black and white wedding!! Before the 1930's you only had one option for wedding photography, and that was black and white film. Now we live in a world with digital cameras and the technology to change the images in any way we want. I have always loved black and white images and thought that they can just convey so much more emotion! While working with a friend last week we were talking about how cool it would be to deliver a wedding or portrait session in black and white, so I went back to Kelsey and Mark's beautiful wedding from 3 years ago because I thought it would really look beautiful in all black and white! What do you think? Do you see these images differently? More or less emotion? Less distractions from random or bright colors? Someday I'd love to get back to shooting film and even shooting a whole session in black and white film, I think it would be stunning!!

I had an idea to start to feature cool places and venues that I would like to photograph people at, so I thought now is the time to start! The first place I wanted to talk about is a few hours away from Madison, but totally worth the drive! Door County is famous for it's fish boils and fresh cherries, but lets not forget about the gorgeous landscapes in that part of the state. I had the opportunity to take a weekend off and go up there this last May and found some gorgeous locations for portrait sessions!

My favorite place was hiking at Cave Point County Park. This beautiful park is full of a unique rocky shoreline that provides ample opportunities for hiking and even a little climbing! I am always up for an adventure with my couples and love having to hike or climb places to get those epic views! So, if you're getting married in Door County, or just want to take a little road trip for an extra special location, you should definitely put this on your list!

Elise + Brian | Elegant Barn Wedding at the Rustic Manor 1848 | Hartland, WI

Elise + Brian | Elegant Barn Wedding at the Rustic Manor 1848 | Hartland, WI

I should probably apologize in advance for the large number of images in this post, but start scrolling and you'll understand why! Elise and Brian's wedding day was one of my favorites for sure!! Not only was everything they planned just stunning, but they are just the sweetest couple and wanted to plan a day that was super fun for their family and friends.

A few of the details that I'll touch on quick are Elise's tulle skirt that went over her dress (genius!), the soft muted tones and patterns of the bridesmaids dresses (ummm, love!!) and the mix of rustic charm of the barn venue with elegant touches (give me more of this please!).

I could go on and on about this day, but because of the large number of images I'll keep it brief and just leave you with this, that probably my favorite part of the day was how Elise kept asking for the day to just slow down. This couple just wanted to soak up every moment of their wedding day and for it to never end. I think that's how it should be :) Be sure to scroll to the bottom to see the awesome vendors that helped make this day happen.

What To Expect From Your Bridal Party Portraits | Shasta Lake, California

What To Expect From Your Bridal Party Portraits | Shasta Lake, California

Choosing who stands next to you as you say your vows on your wedding day is a very important decision! These are the people that you couldn't imagine getting married without. I June I had the opportunity to photograph this wonderful couple with some of their closest friends at a resort on Shasta Lake in northern California! This group of people exemplifies what bridal parties are all about. Some are family, some are friend, but all are there to love, support, and have the best time ever with the couple!

So what do I do to capture these groups? I always do individual portraits, just the girls, just the guys, and then the whole gang together! Each wedding and group has their own personality and special things they want to do, but just know that this is an example of the basic types of images I will capture for sure at each wedding :)
